Moisey Abramovich Chernoguz was born on December 15, 1923, in Ukraine, Odessa region. His parents spoke fluent Yiddish and Hebrew. When famine descended on Ukraine in the 1930’s, his family moved to Leningrad. In 1941 Chernoguz graduated from school and volunteered for the army on the first day of the war. He was sent to military school “VNOS” - Air Observation, Warning, and Communications System. As platoon commander, he fought near Moscow, Smolensk; in Belorussia and Latvia, where he celebrated Victory. After the war, he graduated from the Air Defense Radio Engineering Academy in Kharkov. Chernoguz demobilized in 1974 in the rank of colonel. He emigrated to Canada in 1998. Interview was conducted in Toronto, 2008.

Accused as a traitor, Chernoguz remembered a way to prove his true identity.
