The Six Day was a short and decisive war from June 5th to June 10th 1967 that erupted as aggression against the State of Israel turned into all-out conflict. After false reports had reached Gamal Abdel Nasser that an Israeli force had been massing on the Syrian border, he amassed an army at two defensive line, The Straits of Tiran and the Sinai Peninsula.
Prior to the break of war, Israeli pilots and ground crew were training extensively which enabled the IAF to fly sorties as often as four times a day. This preparatory training regimen proved vital as Israel's preemptive strike destroyed almost all of the Egyptian Air Force and enabled them to quickly rout enemy positions as well as reduce the casualties of their own soldiers. The preemptive strike was such a success that Nasser evacuated the Sinai Peninsula, which the Israeli forces quickly occupied. Nasser falsely reported that the IAF airstrikes were ineffective which prompted Jordan and Syria to attack, which was met by the Israeli counter attack that seized the Golan Heights from Syria and West Jerusalem as well as the West Bank from Jordan.
The war ended with a ceasefire on June 11th. The conflict that had threatened the nation of Israel with a coalition standing against it on all of sides had reached a swift and decisive outcome that saw Israeli territory multiply by a factor of 3. We honor the heroes that stood under equipped, outnumbered and surrounded on all sides against the face of aggression and pressed further through enemy territory to secure a foundation for a nation, we honor those heroes - those few- that secured the lives and prosperity of so many.
